Allergies Are Still Possible but Less Likely
A hypoallergenic dog is one that is less likely to trigger an allergy, but you do need to be aware that it is not a completely non-allergenic dog. Some Easy Coat Care Is Required
You do still need to care for the dog's coat. The long hair can become matted without enough brushing, and the dog can still shed (the shedding hairs are usually caught in the coat, but they can still leave some hairs around). And, of course, you'll have the usual bathing and grooming schedule to follow. But there is nothing special you need to do, other than being really good about brushing your pet, to ensure the dog stays hypoallergenic.
Start Slow When Getting to Know the Pup
When you first get your dog, you'll want to be with it a lot and play with it to help it get used to being around you. And petting and brushing the dog is an essential part of this process. Just be careful for the first couple of weeks to help yourself as well; you want to be sure there is nothing that could still trigger your allergy. As you and the dog hang out more, you'll quickly get a sense of whether there will be allergy issues or if you need to brush the dog a little more to halt reactions. And, of course, you could also find that the care you're giving it is enough to prevent allergic reactions, and now you have a loyal pet that you can snuggle.
Havanese dogs are family dogs that are eager to be close companions. Their hypoallergenic status makes them a wonderful addition to families with allergic and asthmatic members, and their long coat is deceptively easy to care for.
